North Leigh FC’s final pre-season game before the new 2018/19 campaign will see Division One West side Cinderford Town head down to Eynsham Park hoping to take as much momentum as possible into the new season.

The Gloucestershire based club are no strangers to the Millers as league opponents last year. After a 1-1 draw in December at the Causeway Ground, Cinderford would come out on top against a struggling North Leigh team beating them 3-0 when they met in the return fixture at Eynsham Park in March. At the time, North Leigh were facing a lot of difficulty after a run of unlucky results and a limited starting XI selection due to injuries and departing players.

Since then, we have had a new management team appointed and a whole new group of players but more than that, a whole new dynamic brought by the managers. Craig and Darren have been very hard at work on the training ground to get the players in sync and playing a more fluid and threatening style of football. Not only is it a lot more appealing on the eyes for fans but also should (fingers crossed) lead to more results in North Leigh’s favour. And with a good showing so far in pre-season, things are definitely beginning to look good.

In stark contrast to the turn around, Cinderford Town will probably want to keep as much of last seasons quality as possible. Despite a horrifically congested fixture list at the tail end of the season due to bad weather, they won 7 of their last 11 games finishing 13th in the league, 5 places above North Leigh. After a tough first half of the season, Cinderford’s manager Paul Michael obviously did something right as they scored 38 goals in those last 11 games as well. He will be desperate to help The Town get back up to the Premier Division after relegation a year ago.

Ultimately though, tomorrow’s game will be vital for both teams. Both looking for good seasons, both looking for some momentum and both looking to impress their fans.

Can the Millers set the benchmark for what clubs can expect in the coming year or will there be the same outcome as the last time these two met? Only one way to find out…

Saturday 11th August - 3pm KO @ Eynsham Park, OX29 6SL
